"The Reason of State: A documentary on Germany's War on Palestinians"

"The Reason of State" follows the journey of Hebh Jamal, a Palestinian journalist originally from New York City , yet now lives in Germany with her husband and family. Hebh, originally aiming to research Germany's staunch pro-Israel stance and understand their unconditional support for Israel, quickly learned that her journalism has made her a target in her new home.  Burdened by the fact many in her family were killed in this genocide in Gaza,  Hebh is still determined to tell the stories of her friends and colleageus that Germany is keen on silencing.

What is the Reason of State?

In 2008, Prime Minister Angela Merkel declared that Israel’s national security was Germany’s Reason of State. While an unreasonable and unconditional support for Israel was established decades prior, Merkel’s declaration solidified Germany’s complicity in war crimes against the Palestinian people by their political and financial support to the occupation, apartheid, and now genocide. Germany supplies thirty percent of Israel’s arms imports. Despite the heavy death toll where the Palestinian death count is estimated to be over 40,000, Germany has remained steadfast in their support of Israel’s war. So much so to the point where they are not phased by allegations of aiding and abetting a genocide in front of the International Court of Justice. Germany’s Stätsräson has defined their political , civil and cultural institutions to adopt a stark pro-Israel bias at the expense of their other citizens and residents. Germany, home to the largest Palestinian diaspora outside of South America and the Middle East, has instead become a battle aground where Germany has taken Israel’s war against Palestinians and has implemented it here at home.
